I’m trying.

Happy Monday everyone…

Ok, I’m trying. How are you doing?

I’m focusing on glimmers of joy while frightening news stories about the current state of affairs in the US somehow still filter into my media feeds, even though I’ve decided to delete subscriptions, and ignore headlines that use certain disturbing clickbait headings with scary political news that I cannot do anything about.

I can do positive, practical, joy-filled things, like biking to sunrise this morning, and moonrise last night.

sunrise on the rocks
Joy in a sunrise.

Moon
Moonrise.

Things I can do: drink all of the big bottle of water with times of day on the side to keep me chugging it. I set up a dinner date with a friend, and reached out to another friend who’s going through a hard time. There was a fun workout with 2 clients, then an hour with the dedicated women in my virtual class. I got a a video done, and afterward had a protein sandwich on a yummy toasted bun made for me by my guy, who’s become the boss in the kitchen. A bunch of messages came in from fellow advocates supporting utilization of public parks, and making streets safer for walking and rolling in my city of Asbury Park, and I think we came up with some ideas. (If you’re curious, take a peek at @asburyparkcompletestreets.)

At the beginning of the virtual class (so warm that I was wearing a tank top) we chatted about the incredibly clear blue sky, and the warm, sunny, weather we’ve been having this October and November on the east coast. We’re experiencing severe drought conditions, and one of the members of the class said it feels like the apocalypse and she’s worried. I replied that worry doesn’t accomplish anything. But I get it. People worry.

All the more reason to look for joy, the positive things we can do, to prioritize mental and physical health. Maintain social connections, and stay engaged in our communities.

More thoughts:

I don’t want to live to 100. Well maybe I do, and maybe even longer, but I sure as hell want to live really WELL, and have lots of fun and be happy while I’m at it.

My 72nd trip around the sun is almost half over. So far getting older has been kind of great.

My kids and grandkids are all wonderful. I have good health, and I’m smarter and stronger now than I was in my 30’s. I plan to keep finding joy, eating good food, and working on mobility, and strength.

Age is just a number that measures how long you’ve been alive.

December. Tick, tick, tick…

It’s December. No matter what you celebrate (or don’t), you might have been feeling some stress on Black Friday as we were urged to purchase

This is what we train for.

How are you feeling after the election? Up front here, if you voted for Trump, I don’t think I can ever understand, but I love
