KISS

I’ve had a similar convo theme going with friends and clients over the past few weeks. Resolutions, habits, behavior change, being conscious, goals…maybe you’ve been with me in one of those conversations.

Do this, and don’t do that has been the subject of articles and social media forever, and honestly I am beyond over it. Can we please keep it super simple?

It can be overwhelming, so I’m here to tell you to KISS.

An article popped into my email today, “Want to age well…?”. The exercise offered as the “best” exercise for longevity is a single leg balance, kind of an arabesque, single leg straight leg deadlift, or “The Airplane” as it’s called in the article.  So sure, working on balance one leg at a time is important, as is any exercise that activates glutes and hammies.

As if an exercise needs an ad campaign, with aging as the tag line, that one works. Longevity is one of the promises made by supplement companies and influencers. So add The Airplane to your program, do it any time, in the living room on the stairs, in the kitchen, outside. It’s fun and a bit challenging, so why not? But doing it to enhance longevity…don’t get your hopes up.

There’s NO magical supplement or “this one exercise” for overall wellness, fitness, health – if there was there would be no inflammation, no chronic condition, we’d all be super strong and fit, and guaranteed a long lifespan. If you want to try all of it, of course go ahead. Maybe some of it will work for you. Or instead, try keeping it super simple.

Walk, even 10 minutes in fast bursts (or more if you have time), eat good, yummy food, not too much. Lift heavy things a few times a week. Add fun exercises like The Airplane, and move in every direction to keep joints mobile.

Humans grasp and continue to hang on to the promise of magical thinking.

There’s no magic, but the human body is truly a miracle of adaptation. Do simple good things for yourself and you’ll see.

I promise.
