Hello friends~
To all you mom athletes out there (and you are all athletes!), I hope you were feeling the love on Mother’s Day. I had calls from the kids (all parents now) and we did some reminiscing.
One of the things that make being a mom especially great is being reminded of things I said:
“I’ll turn this car around!”
“If you don’t clean your room, everything is going in the trash.”
“I mean it this time!”
“NO…but add it to your birthday/Christmas list.”
“I’m not going to ask you again!
“You’re grounded!” (Then forgetting.)
“I’m not bringing your lunch/homework/cleats/baseball mitt to school ever again!”
“I don’t know” is NOT an answer.
But I loved hearing this from the kids every day:
As soon as they walked in the door every afternoon:
Kid: “What’s for dinner?”
Me: “Are you checking the menu in case you might go somewhere else?” But I think it really meant that they were looking forward to something good.
I enjoyed cooking for my family, and most of the time the kids liked or were willing to at least try what I made. Soups and stews were an easy and frequent go-to, with bread and cheese.
I’m having food-related mommy flashbacks remembering my youngest, about 4-years old walking around the grocery store munching on a whole head of broccoli. I think this smoked gouda-broccoli soup would have made everyone at my table happy.
It is the second Monday of the month, so enjoy this Recipe Edition!
Smoked Gouda-Broccoli Soup
Smoked paprika and smoked Gouda give this broccoli-and-cheese soup recipe a double hit of smoky flavor. If you can’t find smoked Gouda, smoked Cheddar gives delicious results as well.
